Earth Hour all year round in Randwick!

Following on from our current energy and water saving rebates for Randwick residents, Council's focus for Earth Hour 2009 includes:
  • energy and water saving information session for residents at the Sustainability Demonstration House, Randwick with solar and water saving products on display and technical information from a range of different suppliers;
  • letters sent to all restaurants and cafes in Randwick City inviting them to provide candlelit service for diners throughout the evening of Earth Hour;
  • prizes for both participating restaurants and cafes on the evening and their diners; and
  • a special "LIGHTS OUT" message made up of candles written on Coogee Beach from 8.30pm supported by local scouts and other community groups.
Energy and water saving rebates continue to be available for Randwick residents and can be used in conjunction with existing rebates from the NSW and Commonwealth Governments. These financial rebates cover solar hotwater, energy efficient downlights, thermal insulation, rainwater and greywater treatment systems (conditions apply).

As part of Randwick's 3-Council Ecological Footprint project, residents can also receive a free energy assessment of their home or unit and will receive an energy action plan identifying the main actions to take to save energy and reduce household greenhouse gas emissions.
